1.       CONFERENCE DETAILS

Date:      7-8 July 2015, post-conference excursion 9 July.

Host:     University of KwaZulu-Natal

Venue:  UNITE BUILDING, HOWARD COLLEGE CAMPUS, UKZN (Entrance through Gate 8 off Rick Turner Road)

Keynote speakers:   International speaker: Michael Rundell

Speaker from Africa: (To be announced) 

Conference fee*: Early bird (before 1 June 2015): R1 600 (members); R1 800 (non-members)

                             Late registration (at the conference venue): R2000 (all delegates)

 

*The conference fee includes a conference folder and bag, an abstracts booklet, lunch, tea and refreshments during the conference (7 and 8 July) as well as the pre-conference workshop (6 July).

 

2.       PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP INFORMATION

Presenter:  Dr. Annette Klosa, Institute for German Language, Mannheim, Germany

Topic:         “Electronic Lexicography”

Welcome cocktail: The pre-conference workshop will be followed by a welcome cocktail party at UNITE Building.

4.         CONFERENCE RECEPTION

The mayor of EThekwini Municipality invites conference delegates to a formal reception cocktail.

5.       CONFERENCE DINNER

Conference delegates are invited to attend the conference dinner.

Date:      8 July 2015

Venue:   UNITE BUILDING DINING AREA

Cost:      R250 per person

 

6.       CONFERENCE EXCURSION --- THE INANDA HERITAGE ROUTE

Date:     9 July 2015

Cost:      R700 per person

Note:     The post-conference excursion is only available to delegates (and partners) who register and pay for the conference and excursion before 1 June 2015. No late registration is available for the excursion.

 

7.       ACCOMMODATION

Conference delegates are responsible for arranging their own accommodation.

There are numerous guest houses and hotels in the vicinity (the Manor Gardens, Glenmore and Glenwood areas) of the conference venue, and only a few are listed in Addendum A. When you make your booking, you may ask about the distance from the Howard College campus and the guesthouse.

 

8.       TRANSPORT

8.1          Airport transfers

The conference organisers can unfortunately not provide transport from the airport to your respective hotels/guesthouses/BnBs. Delegates can also enquire from their respective guest houses whether they provide such a service.

8.2         Transport between places of accommodation and the conference venue

The conference organisers can unfortunately not provide transport between places of accommodation and the conference venue.

10.       CALL FOR PAPERS

 

Invited: Papers and posters on any aspect of lexicography or terminology.

 

Special sessions may be proposed.

 

All submissions will be adjudicated.

 

The conference language is English.

 

Prospective presenters are to submit abstracts to reach AFRILEX before 31 March 2015. Abstracts must be between 600 and 800 words long for adjudicators to make informed judgements on the central argument of the paper or poster, especially given that conference proceedings are not published. Abstracts should contain the following elements: a central argument, how the study was conducted and some (preliminary) conclusions. Papers that do not comply with these requirements will unfortunately be rejected.

Receipt of abstracts will be acknowledged and feedback will be given to authors as soon as it is received back from the adjudicators. Abstracts of accepted papers will be distributed during the conference. MS Powerpoint Presentation facilities will be available. As a backup, presenters are invited to e-mail their presentation to the organiser ahead of the conference.

 

Please note: It is compulsory for presenters of papers, posters and special sessions to register in advance (i.e. before 31 May 2015).
