THIRD INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF AFRILEX
This Conference is scheduled to take place on 29 – 30 June 1998 on the
campus of the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education (PUCHE). A
Keynote Paper will be read by Sidney Landau. Details in respect of registration
and accommodation will be mailed to members of Afrilex at the end of February
1998.
You are cordially invited to read a paper on any aspect of
lexicography.

A TRAINING COURSE FOR PRACTISING LEXICOGRAPHERS AFRILEX-SALEX'98
At the closure of SALEX '97, which was organised by the Dictionary Unit
for South African English, a mandate was given to AFRILEX to organise a
follow-up course in September 1998. This course is scheduled to take place from
7 to 18 September 1998 at the University of Pretoria. It is
envisaged that intensive training in the compilation of bilingual
dictionaries will be given during the first week (7 – 11 September 1998) by
Sue Atkins and Michael Rundell. The second week (14 – 18 September 1998) will
be dedicated to training in dictionary compilation in African languages.
The focus will be on problematic aspects of lemmatisation in African languages,
on spelling variation, on electronic corpora, on technical terms, etc.
