CONFERENCE
ORGANISATION
All aspects of the conference organisation will be handled by the Local
Conference Organiser and all correspondence, hostel reservations, queries, etc.

Please note: Enquiries regarding reservations in hotels and guest
houses should not be directed to the organiser but to the tourist information
office (see paragraph on accommodation below).

Late registration at Conference Venue: R220
The registration fee includes luncheons on Mon 3, Tue 4 and Wed 5 July.
Registered participants are also invited to the PHAROS Conference Dinner on
Tuesday evening.
To register for the Conference, please complete the REPLY FORM
(included) and return it to the Local Conference Organiser with the
registration fee to reach him no later than 1 June 2000.
CONFERENCE DATE AND VENUE
Date: Monday 3, Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 July 2000
Venue: Ou Hoofgebou (Old Main Building), corner of Victoria and
Ryneveld Street, University of Stellenbosch, South Africa.
The first day of the conference will include a session on dictionaries
treating languages for special purposes, as well as a special session on the
important issue of a Standards Generating Body (SGB) for lexicographic
training. The second and third day will host the traditional conference
programme.
ACCOMMODATION
Guest House: Central reservations
Hotel and guest house reservations can be made through the Stellenbosch
Tourist Information Office. Tel. (021) 8833584, Fax (021) 8838017, E-mail eikestad@iafrica.com.
If you specify your needs and price category they will make the necessary
reservations.
Upon making a reservation you will be informed of the deposit required
to confirm your booking.
Please select a guest house or hotel which is within walking distance
of the University of Stellenbosch.
University hostel
Accommodation will also be available in a university hostel at R93 per
night (without meals) and R110 (breakfast included).
Please note:
Reservations for accommodation in the university hostel must reach the
organiser before 1 June. The University will not accept any
cancellations of accommodation after 14 June 2000. Hostel rooms are available
from Sunday 2 until the morning of Thursday 6 July 2000.
TRANSPORT
Afrilex will provide transport between Cape Town International Airport
and Stellenbosch at fixed times on Sunday 2 and Wednesday 5 July. This
transport will not be available for each flight but will aim to cope with peak
time arrivals and departures. There will be no Afrilex transport during
the conference. Delegates who need transport at any other time may call the Van
der Merwe shuttle service at (021) 8864123 or (021) 8082158. This will be at
your own expense.
BOARD MEETING
Members of the Board and Executive of Afrilex must keep in mind that a
meeting will be scheduled for late afternoon and evening on Monday 3 July 2000.
Please take this into consideration when making travelling and accommodation
arrangements The Secretary will inform you in due course of the exact time(s)
and venue.
