ACCOMMODATION AND MEALS
Single rooms will be
available in Rhodes University residences at R130 per person, including
breakfast. A limited number of twin rooms are available, also at R130 per
person. Alternatively, you may prefer to stay at one of Grahamstown's many
B&Bs and hotels. A list of these can be found on the city's website: http://www.grahamstown.co.za/
Lunch will be available each
day at a cost of R30. A buffet supper will be available in Eden Grove, the
conference venue, on Sunday evening (7 July) between 19:00 and 20:30, price
R35. There will be a cocktail party on the evening of 8 July, after which delegates
may eat at any of a range of restaurants in town (within walking distance). The
conference dinner, to which all delegates are invited, will take place on 9
July. Dinner will again be taken in town on Wednesday 10 July.
TRAVEL INFORMATION
Grahamstown is situated in
the East Cape countryside, about 1½ hours drive from Port Elizabeth (PE).
Shuttle buses will depart from PE airport at times arranged to coincide with
the arrival of specific flights from Johannesburg (JHB), Cape Town (CT) and
Durban (DB) on 7 July. Transport will also be available to ferry delegates back
to PE airport on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning, 10 and 11 July. If
you wish to make use of shuttle transport please book an appropriate flight.
The cost will be R75 per single journey. Otherwise you may arrange private car
hire from PE airport.

Alternatively, Greyhound and
Translux coaches pass through Grahamstown from Johannesburg, Cape Town and
Durban. Intercape coaches from Cape Town and Durban also pass through. Please
let Kathy know when you will be arriving.
NATIONAL ARTS FESTIVAL
The Afrilex conference takes
place following the 2002 National Arts Festival and WordFest
(28 June6 July 2002). Why not come a few days early and enjoy the
entertainment? Rooms in Rhodes University residences will be available during
the Festival at R130 per night B&B. Please book early. Prices for hotels
and B&Bs rise steeply during the Festival. Transport from PE airport to
Grahamstown during the Festival period can be booked through the Festival
office (Tel. (046) 622-4341).
BOOKING DATES
Early booking is advised.
Accommodation in Rhodes residences for the conference period should be booked
by 7 June 2002. Anyone wishing to stay in
Rhodes accommodation during the Festival should try to book by mid-May. Please
complete the attached reply form.
